Honest, Practical, Style Advice

Autumn/Winter trends

Autumn Winter trends  –

We’ve just about seen the best of the summer, and it will not be long before the mornings will start to get nippier and you’ll be thinking of reaching for that extra layer. The sales are over and the Autumn/Winter trends are creeping into the shops, so what should you be looking out for to update your wardrobe?

If you’ve got a good capsule wardrobe all you need to do is add a few little touches like new accessories or a slight shift in colour to refresh your look.

Fashion trends focus on contrast to encourage us to buy more. Well this season we are going to be encouraged to shift from a minimalist look to one of excess! This is where your personality kicks in – those extraverts amongst us are more likely to go with this trend but if you’re more of a minimalist by nature, don’t be drawn into all the embellishments you’ll be spotting in the shops.

You’ll be seeing clashing textures, bold and chunky knitwear, and the cardigan is predicted to make a come back (great, they are so practical!).

As sure as Spring trends always reflect the re-emergence of florals, Autumn is guaranteed to see the return of checks and tartan, followed by sparkle and shine as we approach Christmas!

Suiting will continue to be popular with wide leg pants (very comfy!) and this can give you the option to mix and match a bit – cue the clashing trend…

And what about colour – pink is being replaced by orange/rust and mustard, followed by red – not necessarily an easy colour for a lot of us to wear – try mixing it with maroon or if you want to play safe go for blue, anything from navy (always a safe option) to royal and powder. The colour blue is psychologically associated with intelligence, trust and efficiency, so a great colour to include in your work wardrobe!

Velvet, a lovely luxury fabric, is still going to be popular as day wear as well as for those more evening occasions.

And finally, what about a bit of corduroy when the chill really sets in and you reach for your boots?

Don’t forget before you embrace any of the above into your wardrobe, go through what you’ve currently got to establish where your gaps are – what’s working well and what are the garments/outfits that aren’t paying their way???

This is essential to ensure you to have a positive shopping experience!
