Outfits for festive occasions –
When you get that Christmas invite it can sometimes be a challenge deciding what to wear. You might think you need a new outfit ‘but it ain’t necessarily so’. What if you’ve got that perfect top or dress already in your wardrobe – the one you wore last year? So many of us feel that we can’t wear or repeat an outfit if the same group of friends are going to be present but my answer to that is if you look good in it and it works, why not? How many people will really remember? And if they do, you’ll just be reinforcing a positive message that you look good! And of course, if you think about cost per wear this could be an outfit in your wardrobe that sits dormant for a big chunk of the year.
However, if you really do need to invest in something new, think wisely. As my regular readers will know, the best place to start thinking about the challenge is to visit some re-sell sites, especially if you’re a sparkle kinda girl. These can be a great source of party gems. A quick search on Depop found these tops and M&S pleated skirt and there were quite a lot of sparkly tops on Vinted too.
Secondly, you might not need a whole ensemble. Christmas outfits have been hitting the shops for a while now and as usual sparkle is a big trend, there are loads of options out there to tempt you! For example, this velvet and sequined scarf from Mint Velvet could be just what you need to update a look or refresh an existing outfit. It isn’t too wide so it won’t feel too bulky on and just gives that nod to festive sparkle.
Don’t think you have to ditch your jeans either. Especially for those of you that like to keep it casual. Just make sure you opt for a smart dark indigo denim as they will be more elegant and flattering. There are lots of flares around this season which look great with a pair of heels (and perfect if you have an hourglass or pear-shaped body). For an evening out, team them with a statement top and elevate your accessories. For example, this pink satin blouse from Hush is very on trend with its tie neck. Hush also have some great accessories to add those finishing touches and not just jewellery – what about metallic boots to make that festive statement?
By just by playing around with texture – sequins, satin, velvet – will all add instant opulence and glamour to your look.
Velvet is always a winner this time of year and never more so than this year. And there are so many luscious colours to choose from, something to suit everyone – you don’t have to play it safe with black.

Or if your style personality is a bit more minimalist and you’re looking for a classic piece in a neutral colour but still feel party ready, something like this White Company top could be the answer.
If it’s the whole outfit you need of course consider a dress or jumpsuit, they suit a surprising number of body shapes and apart from the faff of going to the loo they can be just the answer for that party chic.
And there’s always the LBD if you want to play it safe. It will be a timeless staple in your wardrobe but consider what shape you should go for. This one from French Connection with its open ‘V’ neck would work well if you’ve got a bust or broad shoulders and the slit at the front will help to elongate your legs!
Whether you’re going to a festive lunch, work do or cocktail party, these should tick your boxes for this Christmas.
Whatever you opt for, wear with confidence and enjoy the party!
Happy Christmas everyone!
