5 Style Rules to live by –

Developing your style in 2025…A simple Guide for Effective Styling –

Many of my clients say that they have lost their way and feel in a rut. They often want less clothes in their wardrobes but of better quality and more closely matched to their lifestyle needs. As we age and mature, go through the menopause, things change; our skin tone fades, our hair shifts colour and our body morphs into shapes that become more challenging.

So, to recalibrate and redress the balance here are 5 style rules I’d encourage you to follow:

  1. Choose pieces that make you feel good, confident, and comfortable. Accessorise these to bring out your personality, upgrade an outfit and define your style. Attention to detail can make all the difference – elevating a garment to look stylish and unique.

  1. Think about colour – for lots of us as we age, we discover that black is no longer our best friend. It can be harsh and ageing, making you look drawn and tired. So, think softer shades like navy, charcoal, khaki or chocolate for your core neutrals. Tonal dressing can be a really effective way to flatter your figure and look chic. Also, think about colour combinations, don’t just stick to your tried and tested options but play around within your colour palette to come up with new creative options.

  1. Look for unique pieces. Shopping preloved and vintage can be a great way to steer away from the fast fashion trends of the high street that continually change and find something a little more distinctive.

  1. Don’t forget about good basics – investing in a sumptuous cashmere jumper, the perfect fit jeans, having great quality T shirts, a luxurious coat and staple bag and shoes in your wardrobe will all last the test of time and be good for so many occasions.

  1. Don’t compromise on fabric, it will make a difference to how it sits on your body. Synthetics are not only bad for our planet but will disappoint you by bobbling up, losing either shape, or not allowing you to cope with the hot flushes of the menopause. Look for natural fabrics like wool, silk and cotton.

Buy less choose well!
